Pula – Cultural and Historical Center of Istria

Pula is the largest city, port, tourist, administrative and historical center of Istria. With more than 60 000 inhabitants, Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula. Symbol of the city, the most famous and attractive monument is Roman amphitheater, popularly called the Arena. The arena was built in the first century and in the beginning it served as a place where they held the gladiator fights.Today Arena presents summer stage which hosts numerous concerts, film festivals and other shows. It is the best preserved and most important example of ancient architecture in Croatia.

Other sights and attractions of the city are: Forum, Temple of Roma and Augustus, The Church of St. Francis, Golden Gate, The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and many others.
