Few words about Cornwall

I already mentioned Cornwall in post about Eden Project, but recently I found that Cornwall has much more things to offer to its visitors… For the start, it is worth to know that Cornwall is a county of England and it is located on the United Kingdom most south-western part. It has population of little bit over half a million people and since the recent economic drops and crisis it is relying more and more on tourism sector. Unique culture, amazing scenery with mild climate, presents the Cornwall as an excellent tourist location. Cornwall is by three sides surrounded with sea, which gave as a result hundred kilometers of long beaches and spectacular cliffs. Surfers are considering this as a paradise. Beside surfing, main attractions are moorland, century old country gardens, many historic sites like Mên-an-Tol and over hundred of holy wells. Legendary King Arthur (if existed) is probably born on Tintagel Castle on Cornwall. Region has even developed its own Cornish language.

Eden Project

Long time no see. I did not forgot this blog, but I am very busy in couple of last weeks and my spare time is quite low. Anyway yesterday I was looking some texts about UK and found their Eden Project. Those buildings look quite impressive so I decided to put few words about it here… Project Eden is giant greenhouse (one big botanical garden), world largest one, near the town St. Austin on Cornwall, England. Complex is consisting from large number of domes where each dome presents one biome and the core, in which are located educational fascilities and exibition spaces. It features plants from all corners of the world on over 3 hectares of land. Eden Project   There is Tropical Rain Forest biome, Mediterranean biome, Outdoor biome, and there is a plan for Desert biome. Project has received lot of criticism, since for example, they are receiving too much public funding. Project Eden became significant regional tourist attraction. Over 1.5 million people come here during summer season. It is an excellent destination for family trip. Entire project Eden is available for viewing, online in Google Street View. Project use green electrical energy from Cornwall wind power plants and they use only rain water, which they naturally collect in the pit where Eden is located. Over the next few years Project Eden has plans to build their own power plant based on geothermal energy, which will beside Project Eden power up 50 thousand homes on Cornwall.
