Sydney Attractions

Sydney Attractions

Photo by GOC53 Probably the most famous of all Sydney’s attractions is the Opera House. The Opera is built in 1973, and today it is the home of various music companies, such as Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, Sydney Dance Company… The picture of the Opera House, most often taken from the harbor or from the air, is most common representative of Australia, so when in Sydney, it would be a shame not to go and see it up close. Photo by edwin.11 Close to the Opera House are Sidney’s Royal Botanic Gardens, established in 1816. As everything in Sydney, the gardens are relatively informal. The Gardens tours are free and last about 40 minutes, and the guides will show you rain forest area, cacti display and a rose garden. Inside you can relax in the Gardens Restaurant. Photo by OZinOH Sydney has one of the largest aquariums in the world. You can pass trough its massive underwater glass tunnels and watch all types of fishes, especially sharks, that this aquarium are most famous for. Walk beneath the ocean with the sharks and stingrays passing only inches over you, then go to a touch pool and let your kids play with real starfish and sea cucumbers. A special part of the Aquarium is Seal Sanctuary, where you can observe sea lions and fur seals show off their speed and agility. Photo by chrisfreeland2002 After the city tour, you can go to one of Sidney’s many beaches. Voluntary life savers patrol most of them, but you should keep in mind to stay within the flagged area, because the sharks are a real danger there. If you are more of a sports type, you may want to check cricket ground or golf courses, or visit the Olympic Park, built for the 2000 Olympics. Getting there is easy, by ferry, bus or train, and you can even find very affordable accommodation if you decide to stay for a few days. Photo by foilman Getting to Sydney is easy. Kingsford Smith Airport is receiving flights to Sydney from whole world and it is the busiest airport in Australia, serving 36 million passengers annually.

Why Visit Singapore?

Why Visit Singapore?

As an expensive destination to travel to, and having a thriving economy, Singapore can sometimes be overlooked when it comes to finalising an itinerary for a trip around Asia, but it really does deserve a place on the top of any travellers wish list. It’s most definitely worth visiting this bustling and vibrant city-state, even if you can only afford to spend a few days there.  You’ll find that there are more than enough attractions to keep you busy (you could easily spend weeks trying to experience everything there is to offer here) and you’ll probably leave feeling like you’ve had an enriching experience which has left you thirsty for more (with plenty of brilliant holiday snaps to remember the trip by too). Asia’s a popular continent when it comes to the average backpacker’s wish list andSoutheast Asiain particular has some of the cheapest destinations you’ll come across. Singaporeseems to be an exception to this rule, but it’s likely you’ll have saved so much money on your trip through this amazing continent that you’ll be able to spend a few days living it up there. Before we take a look at my recommended highlights of Singapore for those on a fleeting visit, let’s take a look at some interesting facts about the city: Singapore is ranked as the 4th most influential financial centre in the world, it is home to the world’s 2nd biggest casino gambling industry, has one of the busiest ports in the world and is home to more US Dollar millionaires than anywhere else on the planet (perhaps why the cost of living is so high here). If you are lucky enough to spend some time in this marvellous place then don’t miss the following: Singapore Zoo With a host of unique attractions, the Singapore Zoo is said to be one of the best in the world (are you starting to see the pattern with Singapore?), perhaps one of the most popular attractions of all though is the fantastic ‘Breakfast with an Orangutan’ experience which allows the masses of tourists who flock to see it a chance to get up close and personal with these amazing primates.  You’ll get a tasty breakfast whilst the Orangutan’s get theirs, and there’s only a small barrier in between you and these gentle giants which makes the experience that little bit more special. Another popular attraction is the ‘Elephants at Work & Play’ show where the caretakers of these majestic giants (known as ‘Mahouts’) show you how they would work with the elephants in a typical elephant logging camp to move logs logs from within a forest through tough terrain with only minimal damage to the surrounding forest.  It’s a brilliant way to see how the mahouts interact with the elephants on a daily basis. Sentosa This fantastic island will keep you busy for some time if you want to explore everything it has to offer.  From beautiful beaches to golf courses, a glitzy casino and even a Universal Studios with 7 exciting themed zones, there really is something for everyone here.  You can either cross a bridge to the island or, if you’re feeling adventurous and have a head for heights, why not take the fabulous cable car across to the island and enjoy the brilliant views and spectacular photo opportunities on the way. Merlion Park The Merlion Park, and the Merlion statue that resides in it, is one of Singapore’s most popular tourist attractions and many thousands of tourists flock to see it each year.  The Merlion – with the head of a lion and body of a fish – is said to resemble a weird and wonderful creature once seen by a Sumatran prince in the days of legend and it represents Singapore’s ancient history as a thriving sea town. Completed in 1972, the iconic statue weighs in excess of 40 tonnes and reaches around 26ft in height, facing the bay of Singapore and spewing forth a torrent of water from its mouth, it makes for a spectacular photo opportunity and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular attraction with tourists visiting this magnificent city-state. If you like the statue then make sure you head to the 120ft high version on Sentosa island which has a viewing platform in the mouth that you can climb up to, a chance to get some more brilliant photo’s to remember your trip by. Raffles Hotel If you fancy splashing the cash for a day then the world famous Raffles Hotel is the place to visit.  Built in 1899 and with its imposing colonial style architecture, the hotel is one of the most famous landmarks in Singapore and has been the haunt of the rich and famous (past and present) for some time.  The hotel is also the home of the equally famous ‘Singapore Sling’ and it would be a crime to visit the city and not experience this cocktail in the place where it was originally invented (don’t forget to take part in the time honoured tradition of throwing your empty peanut shells on the floor). Night Safari Last, but by no means least, the Night Safari is a tourist attraction not to be missed, extremely popular with tourists (expect it to be busy) and an amazing experience that will give you a unique opportunity to experience how nocturnal animals act in their natural habitat. Everything’s been designed to make it look as close to nature as possible and you won’t see any fences or glass screens between you and the animals as the electric fencing and moats are carefully hidden to make it feel like you’re in the enclosure with the animals. You can take a tram ride through the zoo to experience everything it has to offer, and there’s a brilliant ‘creatures of the night’ show which will keep the kids happy (if you have them in tow) and appeal to all ages. In conclusion; a visit to Singapore is definitely worth the extra expense and you’re sure to be pleased with this amazing desination.  Whether you want to spend your time relaxing on an exotic beach, gambling the night away, blasting the plastic in the excellent shopping malls, simply just take in all the sights, Singapore really has it all.

Among all tourist destinations on Cyprus, probably most attractive is Ayia Napa, which is also biggest resort on the island. Ayia Napa has lot of surrounding beaches where the main ones are Makronissos Beach and Nissi Beach while there are many smaller around like Vathia Gonia, Ayia Thekla, Katsarka, Kermia and many others… In the end golden sand and blue sea around Ayia Napa will not left you indifferent. This place also has magnificent beaches like Saint George Beach and Petra tou Romiou. Paphos waterpark is also very popular, especially for families with children. Because of airport and good air connections to the rest of the Europe, city is excellent starting point, especially if you plan to do car hire Cyprus. Beaches are ok and most known is Finikoudes Beach, very shallow beach, popular among families. Via Flickr by davide.tarasconi Another place which have special role in Cyprus tourism is the Limassol. City has 15 km of beaches around. Off course those are not in line but are intersected with various cliffs and rocks. Most known beaches are Ladies Mile Beach, Santa Barbara, Kourium Beach, Cape Astro and Pissouri. City also has relatively nice waterpark. Via Flickr by RS:X Youth World Windsurfing Championships Protaras is the tourist resort near the town of Paralimni. It has dozen of nice hotel and beaches. One of most beautiful places on Cyprus, Cape Greco, is only ten minutes from Protaras. Via Flickr by HappyTellus Cyprus has even winter resort. Mount Olympus height is 1950 m and over winter it has enough snow despite Cyprus geographical location. This gives you opportunity to be on one of rare places on earth where you can ski in the morning and swim afternoon. Via Flickr by ediweismann Anyway there is no chance that this article can cover all the beauties and charm Cyprus can offer. Numerous small romantic villages, domestic wine, Cyprus cuisine, modern and old cities in perfect mix, are the only small pieces of beauty of this Mediterranean country.

Few words about Cornwall

Few words about Cornwall

I already mentioned Cornwall in post about Eden Project, but recently I found that Cornwall has much more things to offer to its visitors… For the start, it is worth to know that Cornwall is a county of England and it is located on the United Kingdom most south-western part. It has population of little bit over half a million people and since the recent economic drops and crisis it is relying more and more on tourism sector. Unique culture, amazing scenery with mild climate, presents the Cornwall as an excellent tourist location. Cornwall is by three sides surrounded with sea, which gave as a result hundred kilometers of long beaches and spectacular cliffs. Surfers are considering this as a paradise. Beside surfing, main attractions are moorland, century old country gardens, many historic sites like Mên-an-Tol and over hundred of holy wells. Legendary King Arthur (if existed) is probably born on Tintagel Castle on Cornwall. Region has even developed its own Cornish language.

Your Trip to Las Vegas

Your Trip to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is almost entirely about attraction, casinos, luxury resorts, wealth and luck. Casinos represent the main attraction for people who are visiting Las Vegas hoping to win the Jackpot. There are slot machines at almost every corner and people are playing games all around. If you are lucky enough, you might enter the casino with only five bucks and leave as a wealthy man. However, Las Vegas has other things too, not just casinos or other gambling places. You might visit the famous Bellagio or Luxor hotels or the Liberace Museum. Las Vegas worked on his image and is trying to offer something for families too, not just a sensation, an image of a dangerous, risky city. Top quality restaurants and resorts or various entertaining activities are also available in Las Vegas. A top restaurant in Las Vegas is the Emeril Lagasse. You might want to visit Wolfgang Puck, or boutiques of several famous fashion houses such as Channel or Gucci. Tiffany’s is another inspired destination if you want to buy something nice. A great place to spend both time and money is the Belz Factory Outlet or the Cheesecake Factory located in Caesar’s Palace Forum. Best of all, not everything is very expensive, as for instance you can find good meal for just $1.99. Visiting Las Vegas after the conventions season has ended will escape you from the crowds. But it is also worth to visit Las Vegas off season, as you will get excellent rates and reservations. You will find the major attractions along the Strip, known as the Las Vegas Boulevard and in Downtown Las Vegas. BTW. Hoover Dam is another must visit location close to Las Vegas.

History, tradition, culture, politics, philosophy future,… Everything is there! Capital of UK and England and largest urban in the European Union (two words so eagerly expected for most of my countrymen’s) with 7, 5 millions of people. Since history of London is so big I recommend that you read History of London article at Wikipedia. There are bunch of things that are worthy to see in London and I will mention few you can’t pass…
